As part of its regular release cycle, Autodesk has introduced the 2027 versions of its core CAD, BIM, and CDE solutions. This release represents more than an annual update.

The Autodesk 2027 product family marks a significant evolution, moving from AI-assisted features to more advanced, context-aware AI embedded directly into design and construction workflows. AutoCAD 2027, Revit 2027, Civil 3D 2027, and the expanding Autodesk Forma ecosystem now share a unified and secure AI foundation called Autodesk Assistant. AutoCAD 2027 introduces AutoCAD Assistant, a multimodal AI agent that understands DWG geometry, drawing standards, and natural language instructions, including local languages. You can type the prompts, or use voice prompts.

What this enables:

• Automate audits using prompts like "Find dimensions with overriden values", List nonstandard object settings", or "Check this drawing for layer violations"

• Explore geometry using conversational prompts

• Create reports on standards, object usage, or drawing health

• Save and share prompt libraries across teams to standardise QA workflows

This introduces true agentic behaviour in AutoCAD, where the Assistant can reason about geometry and support task execution, not just suggest commands.

Autodesk Forma: The New Unified Industry Cloud

Autodesk is bringing Autodesk Construction Cloud and Autodesk Forma together into a unified, AI-driven industry cloud. This evolution consolidates capabilities while maintaining continuity for existing users.

For many organisations, this simplifies how cloud solutions are structured and adopted across design, BIM, and construction workflows.

New product names:

Forma Data Management Essentials

The popular CDE tool Autodesk Forma Data Management (AFDM, formerly Autodesk Docs) is now included in all AutoCAD, Revit and Civil 3D subscriptions in a slightly limited version, AFDM Essentials. The Essentials tier provides:

• Document management

• Versioning

• Access rights

• 2D/3D viewing

• Desktop authoring integration

• Issue tracking

• Forma Board

Missing from Essentials (available in full version):

• API access

• ISO 19650 workflows

• Transmittals

• Mobile access
