Autodesk Forma, ACC, and the Future of Connected AECO Workflows

From March 2026, Autodesk is strengthening how Forma, Revit, and Autodesk Construction Cloud work together across the project lifecycle — improving data flow from feasibility through to delivery, without forcing any platform changes or disrupting your existing ACC workflows.

A more connected platform | without disrupting workflows

From March 2026, Autodesk is strengthening how its cloud platforms connect across the project lifecycle — from early-stage planning in Autodesk Forma, through detailed design in Revit, to delivery and coordination in Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC). This is not a replacement of ACC, and it’s not a forced move to new tools. ACC remains Autodesk’s construction management and common data environment platform. Forma remains the early-stage planning and design platform. What’s changing is how these environments connect: with better data continuity, smoother handovers between phases, and less rework caused by disconnected workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Autodesk Forma?

Autodesk Forma is a cloud-based early-stage planning and design platform for architects, urban designers, planners, and developers. It enables rapid site analysis, conceptual massing, and environmental performance testing before detailed modelling begins. It’s designed to help teams answer high-impact feasibility and performance questions early, before committing time and budget to detailed BIM work.

Is Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) being replaced by Forma?

No. ACC is not being replaced, retired, or shut down. Autodesk Construction Cloud remains Autodesk’s platform for document management, design coordination, construction management, and delivery workflows (including Docs, Build, BIM Collaborate, Takeoff, and related tools). Forma is an early-stage planning and design platform. The two platforms are being better connected, not merged into one or swapped.

Do I need to move my ACC projects into Forma?

No. There is no requirement to migrate projects from ACC into Forma. Your existing ACC projects, data, and workflows stay exactly where they are today. If you are an ACC customer, you continue to use ACC as your construction management and common data environment platform.

So what is actually changing in March 2026?

Autodesk is strengthening how early-stage design in Forma connects to downstream workflows in Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud. In practical terms, this means smoother handover from feasibility and concept into detailed design, better continuity of design intent as projects move downstream, less rework caused by rebuilding early concepts, and clearer data flow across planning, design, and coordination phases. March 2026 is a milestone in Autodesk’s broader platform alignment — not a sudden product replacement event.

Is this a rebranding of ACC?

Autodesk is aligning its cloud platforms under a broader “Forma industry cloud” strategy, but ACC’s functionality and role do not disappear. Tools like Docs, Build, BIM Collaborate, and Takeoff continue to exist and continue to be used for delivery and construction workflows. This is a platform positioning and integration shift, not the removal of ACC.

Will this disrupt my current ACC or Revit workflows?

No. Your ACC environment stays ACC, and your Revit workflows remain Revit. The focus is on improving how information moves between stages, not changing how teams work day-to-day. You should expect better handover points, less duplication of effort, and clearer continuity from concept through to delivery — not a forced process change or replatforming.

Who should be using Autodesk Forma?

Forma is ideal for architectural practices, urban designers and masterplanners, property developers, and design-led engineering consultancies. It is particularly valuable during feasibility studies, design competitions, and early concept development, where fast iteration and early performance insight can significantly reduce downstream risk.

What kind of analysis can Forma perform?

Forma provides early-stage insights such as sun and shadow studies, wind and microclimate analysis, density and yield calculations, environmental and sustainability indicators, and rapid scenario testing. These tools help teams stress-test ideas early, before investing weeks of effort into detailed BIM modelling.

Does Forma replace Revit?

No. Forma complements Revit. Forma is used for early-stage exploration, site analysis, and option testing. Revit remains the detailed design, documentation, and coordination environment. The goal is better continuity between these stages, not replacing one with the other.

How does Forma connect to ACC?

Forma feeds earlier-stage design intent and analysis into downstream workflows that are delivered and coordinated in ACC. Over time, Autodesk is improving how data flows between planning, design, and delivery so teams spend less time recreating information and more time progressing the project.

Why is early-stage analysis especially important for our ANZ customers?

Planning controls, sustainability requirements, and environmental expectations continue to evolve across Australia and New Zealand. Early-stage decisions have a major impact on feasibility, approvals, cost certainty, and long-term performance. Forma helps teams address these constraints from day one, instead of discovering problems after designs are already locked in.

Is Autodesk Forma cloud-based?

Yes. Forma runs entirely in the cloud, enabling easier collaboration, faster access to analysis tools, and no heavy local installations. It’s designed for distributed, modern project teams.
